Cancer Support Community Atlanta is the local chapter of the world's largest nonprofit provider of psychosocial oncology programs. Our mission is simple: help people affected by cancer enhance their health and well-being by giving them support, education, and hope.
Since opening our doors to Atlanta in 1997, we have provided cancer patients and their support teams with opportunities to learn, exercise, and socialize in a home-like setting. We have a valuable affiliation with Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, and our facilities and programs are open without charge to all people affected by cancer.
Enjoy exercising in the serenity of nature while also spending time with some of your CSC friends. The class meets at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, where walkers complete a mile-long, leisurely paced walk. If the weather is inclement, an indoor facility will be available.
Learn and join in discussion with Jane Myers, OTR/L about the therapeutic mood enhancing and physiological benefits of interacting with the animals in our environment. Multiple research studies indicate that observing animals and interacting with pets are powerful forms of stress relief. Explore ways to build resilience to health and life challenges with observing or interacting with animals.
Join us to watch Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and professionally trained chef, Ashley Van Cise, prepare a nutritionally balanced meal in the CSC Atlanta kitchen. Ashley provides education on customizing menu items to meet the needs of those at any stage of the cancer journey or those looking to lose weight through healthy eating. Participants will be invited to taste samples and will take home a recipe developed by Ashley Van Cise.
In April, we invite participants to bring a new, baffling, or recurring dream with them to class. We will explore dreams using creative writing and simple forms of art.
